I have tried to spend more time working than playing. I admire the Amish people. They believe in hard work and lots of it. Two things I learned about them:
- they will often start businesses just to have some work to give to their kids – not so their kids will have money, but so they will have work to do.
- women will often get together to clean each other’s houses. In the same way that I would have coffee with a friend – that’s their recreation.
They value work so much and realize that through work you have value. I see now that we often think we want a lot of rest and idleness but really we are happier when we work hard and accomplish things. I am trying to embrace this spirit of work at home and at work.
