Happy Birthday Husband!

I love my husband.  This pretty W is in honor of him.  His name is Walter.  I call him Walder.

Walter is the greatest, like Muhammad Ali.

I baked him a Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting for his birthday.

We are going to Red Lobster later.  That’s his favorite restaurant.

A good day for a good man.  I thank God for him. He was meant to be my husband.  And, his love is better than ice cream.  Better than anything I’ve ever tried.  :)

Why I’m A Steelers Fan When I Don’t Really Like Football

For me, football is not just about the sport. It’s about family, tradition, food, team spirit and community.

One reason I am a Steelers’ fan is because of my Dad.  My Dad was a Cowboys fan but he was from Wheeling, WV which is about 50 miles from Pittsburgh.  Most of his family in Wheeling are Steelers Fans.  My brother, a die-hard Cowboys fan does not understand this logic.  But any fan knows that fan is short for fanatic and fanatics don’t have to be rational.

Go Steelers!  :)

An irrational sense of hopefulness

Stress and uncertainty give us an opportunity to become something more than we expect, if we are open to it.  Hope can keep us sane and happy.  I aim to be guilty of an irrational sense of hopefulness!

i choose me

I choose me. I choose thinner. I choose my health. I choose to feel good. I choose to use restraint. I choose not to eat junk. I choose to be in control. I choose to be disciplined.  I choose to stick with this. I choose not to be a human Yo-Yo. I choose to keep my weight down. I choose me.

Can I have some more chocolate?

When my son was in first or second grade, we used to stop at a coffee shop near his school for breakfast.  He would often get a chocolate croissant.

One morning while he was eating, he shared that he wished that the layer of chocolate went all the way to the edges.  He didn’t like the part that was just bread.  Luckily I did and he would give me the crusts and I’d happily eat them, scavenger that I am.

I suggested to my son that he could tell the coffee shop folks about his comment.  He told them and do you know that they started making them with more chocolate?

The moral of the story?  Speak up!  And, more chocolate is always better!

Me vs. Cake

Being thin is a choice. Maybe it isn't for everyone. Some people seem to be born
thin. For me to get thin, it will be a choice. It means time after time making
the choice to say no to cake. And cookies. And brownies. And ice cream. And
fudge. I think you get the picture. :)

Kitchen Aid on the Brain

Forgive me but I can’t stop thinking about these mixers.  They combine so many things I care about: hand-made things, people working in manufacturing, cooking, colors, and quality.  Take a look at this video about the history of these mixers.  You just might want one too!

By the way, my latest favorite color is red.  :)

Ravenous

I’m loving my new book: Ravenous: A food lover’s journey from obsession to freedom by Dayna Macy.  Here’s an excerpt:

“Salt, grease, tasteless pulp in my mouth,” he says, koan-like. “I can never eat

enough corn chips to be satisfied because there’s no there there. And if I

wasn’t paying attention, I’d keep eating them to try to get what isn’t there.

“Compare this to an orange,” he says, “which is sweet and tastes like sunshine.

When you taste something, don’t only let your mouth respond. Let your heart

respond. There’s a lot of food in this world that doesn’t have much to offer

your heart.”

Wishing you sunshine in your stomach, in your heart, and in your world!  :)
