Happy Birthday Husband!

I love my husband.  This pretty W is in honor of him.  His name is Walter.  I call him Walder.

Walter is the greatest, like Muhammad Ali.

I baked him a Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting for his birthday.

We are going to Red Lobster later.  That’s his favorite restaurant.

A good day for a good man.  I thank God for him. He was meant to be my husband.  And, his love is better than ice cream.  Better than anything I’ve ever tried.  🙂

Happy Birthday Sister-in-Law and Friend!

Dearest Luisa!

Dear Luisa,

On your birthday, I thank God for you.  I know you were meant to be my sister-in-law and friend.  Thank you for your letters, your calls, your laugh.  Thanks for your sweetness and your fierceness.  Thanks for being wife of my brother and mother of my nephew.  And aunt of my son.  🙂

Enjoy your day.  I love you!

Give the gift of birthdays

Are you the keeper of birthdays in your family? If so, a thoughtful and useful gift is to give calendars to family members with family birthdays written in. You can get fancy and make one on Shutterfly or you can get out a pen and write them in.  Start with a cute calendar the person will like.  Get out your birthday book.  Write in the birthdays (and anniversaries) for each month.  Another idea is to glue pictures of the birthday person instead of writing in their name.

This is one of the Christmas gifts I give to my brother and his family every year. They get a calendar for the new year and they have an easy way to remember birthdays.

Happy Birthday Sissy!

Happy birthday to my dear little sister Kristen Rose! Thank you for giving me someone to love.  I have relished watching you grow into a woman, a wife, and a mother.  You are kind and loving and I will always have a sweet spot in my heart for you.  Much love and loads of marzipan from your sister. xo

Happy Birthday Mom!

Happy Birthday to my wonderful Mom.  Thank you for always being there for me.  For all the times you took care of me when I was sick.  For reading bedtime stories to me.  For attending ballet recitals.  For driving me to piano lessons and making me practice.  For paying for private school tuition and braces.  For making me tuna casserole and blueberry cobbler.  For teaching me to be a lady.  For laughing with me and crying with me.  For being there all of my life.  I love you and wish you all the best because you deserve it.

Birthday Card System: Never forget a birthday!

Source: google.com via Rachel on Pinterest

I have a system for birthday cards that enables me to send cards to my loved ones on time and pretty much without fail.  My sister-in-law, smart girl that she is, suggested that I share it.  So here it is:

First you need a birthday book like this:

You don’t need a fancy one.  All you need is a calendar.  Gather all your birthdays and keep them here.  This is your birthday bible.  The last week of the month, get out your birthday book with your supplies: birthday cards, stamps, address labels and post-it notes.

Go through the next month, find your birthday people, and write out your cards to each one.

As you complete each card, put it in its envelope, address it, put a stamp and a return address label on it.

Now here comes the important part: Put a post-it note on it with the date it should be mailed.

Now put them all together in a stack in order of date to be mailed.

I keep my stack at work.  Each morning I take things that need to get mailed that day.  I take off the post-it note and it’s ready to go – already addressed and stamped!

The good news?  Your loved ones get their cards on time!  Try it!
