I love everything about family traditions, especially how they come about. Here’s a family tradition in my family: going to Wheeling, West Virginia.
My Dad was born in Wheeling 82 years ago today on
April 7, 1930. He moved away from Wheeling when he was in his 20s. I was born in 1963 and he started taking me to Wheeling soon after I was born. I grew up spending summers there with my grandmother, aunts and uncles, and cousins. When my son was born in 1991, I started taking him. I don’t think there’s been a year when my son and I have not returned to Wheeling. It’s in our blood. I can’t separate my love for Wheeling from my love for my Dad, my family, and the tradition. They are all one thing. I believe that one day my son will take his kids there. Family traditions are the lifeblood of a family.
